Practical Lesson

The “Fuck This” Moment.

We all have aspects of our lives where we wish things could be different. We could be locked in a cycle of relationships which don’t work out, stuck in a job where we are overworked or disrespected, have troubled interactions with friends and family or be constantly failing to get ourselves out of debt. And no matter how we try to out-think, out-do, out-act, out-pray or hide, nothing seems to change.

Yet, we continue to sacrifice our present happiness for the hope of a different (and often painless) future, that on some level we don’t think we deserve. Until one day, we reach what can only be described as the most divine moment of all: The "Fuck This" Moment.

It is the moment where you decide that anything is better than the cycle you have been locked into.

It is the moment where you decide you may as well do things your way, because trying to do it differently doesn’t work anyway.

It is the moment you choose yourself over the Shit that keeps Happening.

Now, there are times that we think that we may have reached our "Fuck This" moment, but something is holding us back from taking that final step. There are other times where we can see that things aren’t working but we aren’t ready to even think about saying "Fuck This" to anyone or anything.

That’s okay. At some point, the alternative to the status quo will be the best choice available to you, even if you don’t know what the choice means. Once you say “Fuck This”,  you don’t have to do anything else (acknowledging it at this stage is enough).

Consider the relationships or moments when you reached your “Fuck-This” moment in the past. Likely, you have experienced it in one or more aspects of your life.

  1. List the conditions that compelled you to make that choice.

  2. Evaluate your list and select the two conditions that made your choice clear.
